New drums from Mali just in.
Just arrived, hardwood professional Djembes from Mali. We are working
with the Wassoulou drum co-op in Mali who produce drums using Dugura
wood (Cordyla pinnata), Lingué (Afzelia africana), Guéni (Pterocarpus
erinaceus) and Djala (Acacia).
They have a long tradition of carving fine drums, and the Wassoulou area
of Mali and Guinea is one of the main areas of traditional Djembe
playing.
Wassoulou Percussions trades with the following in mind: preserving the
environment, and the traditions of drum making in Mali. The company has
developed on ecologically sustainable and fair trade lines.
Mali Professional Djembe 35cm head by 24" high is made from Lingué with
pre-stretched rope and specially selected goat head. The drum has a warm
bass and as many top notes as the skilled player can coax from the
Djembe.
Mali Standard Djembes are made from either Guéni or Acacia wood, are
slightly plainer and use pre-stretched black cord. Again, these drums
have that special Mali sound.
